Maintaining a wet edge is one of the most important techniques in painting (Photo 3). Simply put, always try to brush or roll back into paint that’s still wet. The result will be a uniform, seamless-looking coat of paint. The larger the area you’re painting, the more difficult this task becomes. Use natural breaks like door and window casings or courses of siding to divide large areas into manageable chunks. Then complete each section without stopping. Paint three or four courses of siding from one end to the other, for example. Then move down to the next four courses and repeat the process. Home Painters Louisville CO
The goal of the first step, called “laying on” the paint, is to get the paint onto the surface in the quickest, most efficient way possible. Don’t worry about smoothing it out yet (Photo 2). Use a brush, roller or sprayer for this step and apply enough paint to cover the surface without creating runs. Cover an area just large enough to allow you to go back and smooth it before the paint starts to dry. Since heat, humidity and the type of paint you’re using all influence drying time, you’ll have to experiment as you start to paint to get a feel for how large an area you can safely cover before returning to smooth it out. The most common mistake beginning painters make is spending too much time and effort laying on the paint. A few quick strokes is all that’s needed. Then reload the brush and cover the next area.
Steel siding is handled almost identically to aluminum siding in most instances. Some types of steel siding are designed to never need painting again; these types may require special primers 2 before painting, and it’s best to check with the manufacturer. Other types can be painted like aluminum for around the same cost of $2,000-$3,000 for 1,500 sq.ft. Louisville Home Painting
Power washing – $0.42–$1.40/sq. ft.. You might think you can save some money by power washing the exterior yourself, but homeowners can get a bit trigger-happy with a power washer in their hands. The pressure from the washer can take them unawares, breaking windows, leaking water into window frames and siding joints, and gouging wood. It’s probably wiser to use a hose and scrubbing brush. Rinse off any cleaning solutions thoroughly. Louisville House Painting

Homeowners are more likely to tackle an interior paint job themselves than to take the DIY route for an exterior paint job. That, plus the cost of the paint itself, means that an interior paint job is generally cheaper than an exterior one. And it can be a great way to refresh your space without buying all new furniture or making more costly and time-consuming renovations. Home Painters Louisville CO
When repainting a home that has been painted before, the material should first be pressure washed and any loose paint needs to be removed. If necessary, repairs may also need to be made to the existing siding or surface material, and any older caulk 9 may need to be replaced around windows and doors. Depending on the condition of the siding and whether you are making a significant color change, you may also need to prime this siding first before painting. All of this can potentially mean that repainting can result in higher overall costs, although this does come down in part to the quality of the siding.
Keep in mind that most painters charge by the hour, and the more work there is to be done, the higher the overall costs will be. If your home needs more extensive work, however, such as making significant repairs to the siding or stucco, or if there is a lot of delicate trim that needs to be worked around, you could have higher costs, up to an additional $15 an hour for this work. So, while the above prep work is usually included in the hourly cost of roughly $50 per hour per painter, you can expect costs to climb to an average of $65 per hour per painter for work such as repairing or patching holes, repairing or replacing trim, and installing new caulk or putty around windows and doors. Even if you plan on painting your home in various shades of white or off white, there is still a fair amount of planning that should go into the project to ensure that you get the results you want. Color and tone have a powerful impact on how a room is perceived, so it’s crucial to take the time to view each room on its own and in conjunction with the rest of the space. Lap marks show up as darker areas and are caused by painting over dried paint—in essence, adding another coat. To avoid lap marks, work quickly and paint in sections small enough so the previously painted area stays wet until you can brush the newly applied paint into it. If you do end up with lap marks in the first coat, the second coat will probably cover them. House Painting Louisville Colorado

Some siding on older homes might need so much repair that it is more cost-effective to replace the siding rather than repair it all and then paint over it. Expect to pay between $1,550 and $3,050 for the removal and disposal of old siding and $4,000 to $14,000 for new siding and installation. Expect to pay more if the wood underneath is wet and rotten and needs structural repair work. Home Painters Louisville CO
When considering painting styles, be sure to consider how the colors will interact with one another, as well as the rest of the room. For example, accent walls should always be highly visible, and either be the wall you see first when entering the room or the wall that your focus will be on once you’re in the room to be the most effective. The accent wall color can be repeated as smaller accents on pillows and throw rugs throughout the room. Louisville House Painting

Shellac primer is very versatile in that it has the fastest drying time and adheres better than all other primers. It permanently covers stains and odors. However, be advised, it has the strongest smell and a sticky consistency. Clean-up is extensive and involves denatured alcohol or acetone nail polish remover. Because of this, a sprayer cannot be used to apply the shellac primer. For shellac primer, the cost is about $20 to $60 a gallon. Louisville House Painting
